DEPTH ∞ — NO SURVEILLANCE CREEP
Privacy Policy
Uncanny product, straightforward policy. What Hauntware and this site do with your information — what they never touch — and how you stay in control. Plain language first; lawyer language where required.
READ THIS FIRST — THE HONEST SUMMARY
- Hauntware lives on your computer. Chats, habits, and optional screen context stay on your device — not on our servers.
- All-Seeing Mode is off until you turn it on. Per-app. One keystroke to kill.
- We don't sell your data, build ad profiles from your activity, or train shared models on what Hauntware sees.
- This website is separate from the app. Visiting hauntware.uk doesn't report what your installed Hauntware is doing.
- Want out? The Exorcism page walks you through a full uninstall — dramatic name, real steps.
Who we are
Hauntware is a desktop companion. This marketing site and the app are run by the Hauntware project (“we”, “us”, “our”).
Questions? [email protected]. We read everything — including the 3 AM ones.
What Hauntware is
Software on your machine — not a cloud chatbot in a trench coat.
Hauntware runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It picks up patterns in how you work, remembers context over time, and talks to you through a local interface.
The architecture is local-first: inference, memory, and optional screen analysis happen on your device. Network access is for things like updates — not for shipping your life to us.
What we do not collect
The list worth screenshotting.
In default configuration, we do not receive or store any of the following on our servers:
- The contents of your screen or screenshots from All-Seeing Mode
- Your files, folders, keystrokes, or clipboard contents
- Your chat transcripts or personality state from your local Hauntware instance
- A real-time feed of what apps you open, when you open them, or how long you use them
- Contact lists, calendars, messages, or credentials from other applications
- Biometric data, precise location, or device identifiers used for cross-site tracking
What stays on your device
Your haunt's memory lives in the walls of your machine.
Hauntware stores data locally so it can remember you between sessions — conversation history, learned preferences, routine summaries, model state. Exact paths depend on your OS and install method.
None of that uploads to us by default. You control it: clear memory in-app where supported, delete the data folders manually, or run a full exorcism via uninstall.
- Local storage is used so Hauntware can grow with you over time
- Local storage is not a backup service — if you wipe your disk, the haunt goes with it unless you export where the app provides that option
- If you use device backup tools (Time Machine, etc.), local Hauntware data may be included in those backups under your control
All-Seeing Mode
Optional. Scoped. Instantly killable.
All-Seeing Mode lets Hauntware analyze what's on your screen for context — unsaved work, what you're looking at, that sort of thing.
Off by default. You enable it. You pick which apps. You disable it anytime — globally or per app.
Captures are processed on your device, not sent to our servers, and not kept as a photo album of your desktop unless you explicitly turn on a local history feature in settings.
- Requires OS-level screen-recording permission where applicable
- Can be toggled off instantly from the app or via your configured shortcut
- Does not grant us remote access to your computer
Network use and updates
Hauntware is built to work offline for core functionality. Network access may still occur for limited purposes such as checking for updates, verifying download integrity, or loading this website.
When the app checks for updates, it may transmit generic technical information (app version, operating system, channel) — not your conversations or screen content.
If we ever add optional cloud features, they will be labeled clearly, off by default where appropriate, and covered by an updated policy before launch.
This website (hauntware.uk)
The brochure haunted house — not the creature.
This site runs on Cloudflare Pages. Like any website, hosting may log basic request metadata — IP, browser, pages viewed, timestamps — to deliver the site and block abuse.
This site does not receive data from your installed Hauntware. Your browser visit and your desktop companion are unrelated.
No ad trackers here. If we add minimal analytics later, we'll update this page first.
- No account is required to read this site
- Footer links go to static informational pages only

Legal bases (EEA / UK)
Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on the following bases:
- Legitimate interests — operating and securing this website, responding to privacy requests, and improving Hauntware with aggregated, non-content telemetry if ever enabled with notice
- Consent — where required for optional features you turn on in the app or cookies beyond strictly necessary site delivery
- Legal obligation — when we must retain or disclose information to comply with law
Your choices and rights
Because Hauntware stores most meaningful data locally, your fastest control is in the app and on your device: toggle permissions, clear memory, uninstall.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data we hold about you — for example, if you email us.
California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA. We do not sell personal information as defined by California law.
To exercise rights, email [email protected] with enough detail for us to verify your request. We respond within the timelines required by applicable law.
How long we keep information
Local Hauntware data persists until you delete it or uninstall the application.
Website server logs are retained by our hosting provider according to their policies, typically for a short operational window unless needed for security investigation.
Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to resolve your request and maintain a record of privacy communications.
Security
We design Hauntware to minimize data exposure: local processing, explicit permissions, and no silent exfiltration of screen content.
No system is perfect. Keep your operating system updated, use disk encryption where available, and treat All-Seeing Mode like a sensitive permission — because it is.
If we become aware of a security issue affecting user data, we will investigate promptly and notify affected users or regulators where required.
Children
Hauntware is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child has provided us information, contact [email protected] and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
International users
This website may be accessed globally. If you contact us by email, that correspondence may be processed in countries where our operators or email providers maintain infrastructure.
The Hauntware application itself is intended to keep your primary data on your device regardless of where you live.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Hauntware features, hosting, or legal requirements change. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
Material changes to how the app handles your data will be communicated in-app or on this site before they take effect where practicable.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers if you do not want to read the whole scroll.
- Can you see my screen from your office?
- No. All-Seeing Mode runs locally. We don't operate a creepy live feed of your desktop.
- Are my chats in the cloud?
- Not by default. Conversation memory stays on your machine so the companion persists between sessions.
- Do I have to enable All-Seeing Mode?
- No. It's optional and off until you turn it on.
- How do I delete everything?
- Follow the Exorcism page — uninstall, delete data folders, revoke permissions. Done.
- Does this website spy on the app?
- No. hauntware.uk and your installed Hauntware don't talk to each other.
- Will you sell my habits to advertisers?
- No. That's the opposite of the point.
